National Puppy Day Emphasizes Adoption Crisis

Here at Port Charlotte Florist - and for that matter, in South Florida - we love our dogs!  And because we recognize that they are such a huge part of our lives, we admire initiatives such as National Puppy Day that strive to make life better for these beloved animals.  Initiated a decade ago by Colleen Paige - who is also the pet-advocate behind the establishment of National Dog Day and National Cat Day - this grassroots effort was intended to shine a light on the desperate plight of the homeless puppies and dogs in America. The day stands as a reminder to prospective pet owners to adopt puppies from shelters instead of from for-profit organizations. Did You Know? Due to serious overpopulation, a puppy born in 2017 will have only a 1 in 10 chance of spending their entire life in a loving, stable home. The Arrival of Spring Flowers

Spring is a bit different in South Florida. In fact, while others are still struggling to get rid of the last remnants of snow and ice, we are experiencing some of the most glorious weather of the year, And although the difference between winter and spring is not as dramatic here, we do have reasons to celebrate the new season - like the fact that we have longer days to spend enjoying paradise. Just when you think our home couldn't be any more beautiful, the spring flowers arrive! As floral designers, we love the springtime and the many new colors, textures, and varieties that we have in our flower shop. If you are looking for a truly beautiful floral arrangement for a special occasion - or even "just because" - give Port Charlotte Florist a call. We will be happy to tell you all about the new flowers we have in stock for a truly custom bouquet.  Read More about The Arrival of Spring Flowers »

Observe International Women’s Day, Locally

International Women's Day has been growing in momentum since its establishment in 1910, when a handful of women in the Soviet Bloc nations decided to stand up to be counted. The initiative really picked up steam when the UN decided to sanction the movement in the 1970's. And with the addition of online forums and virtual global gatherings, the effort has further and further reach. The original intent was to fight for social justice, equality, and rights for women, and in many parts of the globe that is still the main concern. In the West, the day has evolved more towards celebrating the accomplishments and achievements of women in all aspects of society. This March 8th, we will once again honor the pioneers and visionaries that came before us, as well as the women currently taking the world by storm.  Read More about Observe International Women’s Day, Locally »

On Valentine's Day, there is a lot of focus on purchasing flowers for that special someone - as there should be! Let's face it, the most romantic day of the year couldn't possibly take place without the beauty of bouquets. But we would also like to point out that there are so many special people in your life that also deserve to be a part of all the love and affection of the day. Port Charlotte Florist creates floral designs and arrangements for everyone who holds a piece of your heart, making sure that we help you to celebrate all the love on February 14th. Of that number, over half of them will purchase a floral arrangement or gift for a non-romantic family member (such as their mother, grandmother, sister or daughter). Twenty percent plan on a purchase for friends, neighbors or co-workers.
