There are many ways to “spend” on Random Acts of Kindness Day, and not all of them involve money. When we spend time with an elderly relative or neighbor, we communicate to them just how valued and loved they are – whether we sit and talk, cook them dinner, or take them out to enjoy a day at a museum or movie theater. We can all probably think of someone who would love our company, but if not, stop by a local nursing home and visit the common area. They will love the attention! You may even wish to call ahead to find out if there is a craft or activity that you could bring with you.
Flowers are a proven way to share happiness, but on this special day, feel free to get creative! Buy a loose bouquet of fresh flowers, and hand them out one by one as you go through your day. Imagine the delight of the grocery store clerk, bank teller, and school crossing guard as you hand them a beautiful bloom with a smile. You can also leave a flower on a car windshield, with a happy and encouraging note. If your intended recipients prefer sweets, bake some cookies and leave them in the breakroom, or have a gourmet basket delivered to the teacher’s lounge of your child’s school.
