The first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 and was a meal celebrated by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians. Interestingly enough, according to the records, turkey was not on the menu – venison and seafood were the main courses, joined by fruits, gourds, and berries.  Obviously, turkey has become the iconic meal on Thanksgiving Day, with an estimated 88% of Americans expected to consume turkey on that day. Here are a few other fun facts about turkey:

  • Only male turkeys gobble, while female turkeys cackle more like a chicken,
  • The tryptophan in the turkey does not cause the sleepiness that occurs after the Thanksgiving meal. The drowsiness is simply a result of the body attempting to digest all the extra food.
  • TV dinners were actually invented in 1953 to cover up an executive’s Thanksgiving mistake. He had ordered too many frozen turkeys – 26 tons too much! The company sliced up the turkey into single servings and packaged with side dishes to attempt to use all of the extra turkey.

The most important Thanksgiving tradition is the quality time spent with our family and friends. Our designers have been hard at work creating stunning floral decor to make your Thanksgiving meal warm and inviting.
