Port Charlotte Florist – International Women’s Day

women's dayInternational Women’s Day, observed on March 8th, is a global information initiative intended to bring awareness to the presence of gender disparity worldwide. The campaign highlights the significant progress achieved by efforts thus far, puts forth a plan of action; and honors the pioneering efforts of everyday women who have had historic impact in their spheres of influence.

Although the day has been celebrated for over a century; it gained momentum after the United Nations backed the efforts of participating countries. Each year, a theme is chosen that reflects a facet of equality yet to be achieved; whether empowering women to fight poverty, or rallying governments to eradicate systemic abuses. In Western countries, women have made great strides and enjoy equality that many other countries do not afford. Therefore in America, the day is most often observed by remembering influential women in our history, as well as honoring the woman who are making an impact day after day right in our own communities.

From Venice to Englewood, there are women who are the everyday heroes right in our midst. If you’d like to honor a businesswoman or city council member, this stunning arrangement is a meaningful choice – orchids stand for wealth and prosperity, and palm fronds symbolize success and victory.
